Day of Electrolysis Appointment
Continue to hydrate: Go for electrolytes and foods with a high water content. Examples includes fruits, vegetables, soup, et cetera.
Clean thoroughly: Arrive at your appointment with clean skin by gently washing the area to be treated with a mild soap and water on the day of your appointment.
Skip products: Do not apply makeup, lotions, deodorants, or perfumes to the treated area on the day of your session.
Wear loose clothing: Choose loose-fitting clothing to avoid friction and irritation to the treated area. This is especially important with electrolysis in the genital region. If possible, wear skirts, dresses, or loose sweats to ensure there is no friction and to allow for easier bathroom breaks during your session.
Eat: Eating a meal within 30 minutes of the start of your appointment can help minimize discomfort.
Pain management: If you’re concerned about discomfort/pain, consider taking an over-the-counter pain reliever like ibuprofen, if it is safe for you to do so, about an hour before your appointment. Other options include topical numbing cream or local numbing injections through Transition Health.
> If you are using a topical numbing cream, apply this 20-60 minutes before your scheduled appointment time and cover with plastic wrap. It is best that you come with the cream still on to allow the cream to work as long as possible.
> If you would like Dr. Kurzet to provide local numbing injections of the area to be treated, please discuss this with us prior to your scheduled appointment. Applying numbing cream before your appointment can provide pain management for the injections themselves.
We want you to be as comfortable as possible during your electrolysis session, so please let us know how you are feeling throughout your treatment. We can take breaks if you need them.
