What to Expect: Your Skin After Electrolysis
Electrolysis is highly effective, but it does create a mild controlled injury to the hair follicle which means a normal healing response in the skin. Here’s what you can expect in the first three days after electrolysis:
Day 1: Immediately After
What You’ll See:
- Mild redness and swelling in the treated area
- Tiny raised bumps or welts (especially on the face or more sensitive skin)
- A warm or tight feeling in the skin
What’s Happening:
This is your body’s natural inflammatory response. It’s similar to what happens after waxing or tweezing, but more localized to each follicle.
Day 2: Healing Begins
What You’ll See:
- Redness usually begins to fade
- Small scabs may start to form (especially if coarse or deeply rooted hair was treated)
- Skin might still feel a little dry or tight
What’s Happening:
Your skin is starting to heal and close off the treated follicles. Scabbing is normal and is a sign the skin is repairing itself. Do not pick at them as this can cause scarring.
Day 3: Calming Down
What You’ll See:
- Most redness and swelling should be minimal, if not gone
- Any scabs may begin to dry and fall off naturally
- Skin tone and texture begin returning to normal
What’s Happening:
Your skin is wrapping up the initial healing phase. You may still see minor scabbing or a bit of flaking, but this will clear with time and proper care.
Healing is Normal — Patience is key!
Everyone heals at a slightly different pace. What matters most is that you don’t pick, scrub, or irritate the area, and you stay consistent with gentle aftercare. Please remember that hydration is important after your appointment too.
If you ever notice anything unusual, like extended swelling, signs of infection, or discomfort beyond a few days, please contact your electrologist.
